The Humble Genius

The marginalized genius will always be more intelligent than the status quo genius. She is able to access perspectives unknown to her white male counterparts. Although they may share the same strengths and abilities, her oppression exposes her to problems and challenges not faced by the majority. This makes her the authority on certain social issues. She should instruct those with the authority to affect change on inclusion and dismantling oppressive systems. She is merely the instructor however, as she cannot facilitate the solutions herself.

This seems like an inflammatory statement in THIS society due to white supremacy and patriarchy. If you subscribe to these oppressive systems, this statement will make you uncomfortable, angry even. Hold on to that feeling and reflect. I will continue talking to the rest of us and check in on you before we're done.

Now, the topic is The Humble Genius, humility is honest not deluded. So declaring the opening statement is indeed humble. It is a simple truth that should not be controversial. A black woman standing firm in who she is and what she knows should not make others feel threatened. The fact that it does is a problem. A problem that black women themselves cannot fix, but we do have it solved. We know what needs to happen to bring all of this nonsense to an end.

My time on Earth has shown me that my existence is destined to frustration, pain, marginalization, oppression, abuse and beauty. The beauty is what inspires me to continue in spite of everything. A world that needs my labor and leadership but will never give me the credit, doesn't deserve me. My children however do deserve me so I will be here as my full, intelligent, dynamic self. Beautiful and loving, bringing light, understanding and hope to others.

White men will not conquer me, black men will not conquer me, white women will not conquer me, any person who is opposed to my greatness... will not conquer me. My very existence is enough to shake haters to their core. My body, my hair, my mind is in direct competition with those who would see me defeated and they hate how much I love myself. They envy how I love and uplift my children. My art is unapologetic and my point of view is undeniable.

I dare you to try it. Try to tell me that I am not who I am. Try to change the vision of my minds eye, you will waste your time and energy and I will emerge from the confrontation stronger and more self-assured. You will limp away wondering how you were bested by someone you imagined was beneath you. As satisfying as these small skirmishes are, the war can only be won through unity. I defend myself with an open heart.

If you read this with an open heart, thank you. If you read this and are convinced that I am arrogant, you are not ready for unity, you are unfit for the conversation. I am fair and give credit where it is due, why are you unable to do the same?

  1. Poignant writings such as this titillate my literary senses! I also love the use of your pseudonym, it is as if you instantly cube yourself, the one who sees the concept of what is to be written because they've experienced it before it is put to pen and paper, the one who decides how everything will be assimilated, and the one that you put in front to take the credit for what is written. Pound for pound, the truth of flowing from the writer's hand makes the world go 'round!
